Board Member Feature: Susan Shortill

Susan Shortill’s Folklorama history goes back to her first Pavilion visits in 1976. Since then, she has worked at the Folklorama Operations (1988 – 1997), volunteered as a “Step-On Guide” for bus tours, and became involved with the Brady School of Dance as a “dance mom” and through the Celtic Ireland Pavilion. She has filled many roles for the Pavilion, including Cultural Display Coordinator, Assistant Pavilion Coordinator, and Adult Ambassador.  She was also honoured to serve as an Ambassador General for the 2011 Festival year.

Susan is a retired volunteer and event manager primarily in the not-for-profit sector, notably with the 1999 Pan American Games, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, Misericordia Health Centre, and Abkhazi Garden in Victoria, BC. In addition, she has volunteered locally with the Teddy Bears’ Picnic, Winnipeg Folk Festival, Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba (IRCOM) and with Things (supporting the Royal Winnipeg Ballet). She enjoys being an enthusiastic audience member of live music, any kind of culinary endeavour, her membership with the Winnipeg Embroidery Guild, and travelling the world through visiting Folklorama.
