Scholarship Recipient Profile: Véronique Demers
As the school year starts to wind down, high school and post-secondary students look for financial assistance opportunities to support their educational dreams. A great place to start is Mark & Dorothy Danzker Scholarship for Excellence through Folklorama, thanks to the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba.
In 2017, Véronique Demers was studying medicine at the University of Ottawa when she heard about the Mark & Dorothy Danzker Scholarship opportunity. As an active member of the Folklorama French-Canadian community, she knew she would be a great candidate. She applied and won.
“It meant a lot to be recognized for all the hard work I do to promote culture and music,” stated Demers. “It was also very hard to make money as the fully loaded schedule of a medical student doesn’t allow time to have a job, so having that little bit of extra money meant one more month of rent that I didn’t need to worry about.”
Today, Demers is a family physician in Winnipeg and Ste Anne, MB. She still plays the violin in her spare time and performs at Folklorama every year.
“(The Scholarship) is a great way to be recognized for the work that people do to help keep culture and heritage alive.”
Thank you, Véronique, for being an inspiration to so many.
