Representing Culture & Community During Folklorama
When you walk into a Pavilion, you will be whisked away into an immersive cultural experience while sharing the customs, histories, and joys of culture through music, dance, food, education, and of course, people.
Each year at Pavilions, two adult and two youth ambassadors are chosen to represent their culture and community during Folklorama. They welcome guests to their Pavilion, share knowledge and stories, and travel from Pavilion to Pavilion to learn about other cultures. Outside of the Festival, ambassadors do great work in the community volunteering at many different charities.
“Since I was four years old, I’ve been performing and volunteering at Folkorama,” states Sage Johar, Youth Ambassador, Punjab Pavilion. “I take pride in advocating my culture, representing the community by wearing traditional dresses and speaking to guests, including performing on the floor.”
This year, there are 95 ambassadors representing our 24 Pavilions who dedicate much of their time and energy to help make the Folklorama Festival a success.
“I’m really excited to be an ambassador for the Punjab Pavilion this year as I get the opportunity to gain so many new experiences,” states Johar. “Like going to other Pavilions, learning about their culture, trying the different cuisines each Pavilion has, seeing performances, meeting the ambassadors, and of course, making unforgettable memories, thus promoting inclusiveness and diversity.”
“Participating in the Folklorama as the Egyptian Ambassador is like travelling from airport to airport learning about the uniqueness of each culture, while also celebrating part of my identity with others,” states Mirna Ragheb, Adult Ambassador, Egyptian Pavilion.
If you want to learn more about a Pavilion’s culture, talk to our Pavilion Ambassadors. They are more than happy to share their stories with you.
Thank you to all of our ambassadors who dedicate much of their time and energy to help make the Folklorama Festival a success!
