Learn the art of Métis beading with Prairie Owls Beads own Julie Desrochers! This workshop includes a history on how Desrochers developed her craft and the Métis beading basics, including tips and tricks to help you create your own Métis flower! A free of charge kit containing everything you need to participate in the class will be sent to you upon registration. Only 150 kits are available.

Artist Biography

Julie Desrochers is a proud Métis and Francophone from Winnipeg Manitoba. She is an educator and learner by day, and a small business owner and beader in her spare time. Fourteen years ago, Julie fell in love with beading and decided to learn more by taking a full-day workshop led by Métis artist, Gregory Scofield. Beadwork has since been an important part of her life and a reminder of who she is and where she comes from. Every project she works on, big or small, and each class she teaches, with well-versed beaders or beginners, comes with new teachings, new tricks and more history.

As a proud Métis woman and teacher, she believes in the importance of sharing the art of beadwork so that it can continue to represent the creativity, strength and resilience of our Métis Nation. Desrochers is also a former Folklorama Ambassador General where she proudly promoted and celebrated cultures from around the world.
