Evans Coffie is blessed to have been born in Ghana, West Africa, which is steeped in a rich and diverse culture. As a young child, he was taught much about his culture by members of his village and its elders. As a young man, Evans had the opportunity to travel around Ghana to most of its villages, where he learned the different regional dances and rhythms from their elders. In this journey he was blessed to learn so much about his own history and richness of his culture.
Evans then toured the world with the National Dance Ensemble of Ghana as one of their principal dancers, bringing this richness of culture to the world. In this journey with the dance company, he discovered the beauty of Canada and decided to become part of its landscape. Bringing all his talent with him, Coffieman was born. As a teaching and performing artist, Evans now tours the country offering rocking African shows that includes entertainment for the whole family, from his Jungle songs and animal calls, to his fancifully fast fingers on the drum.
African culture is Evans’s heritage; he places much respect in this and those who came before to pass it on. Evans believes that it is his legacy to continue this tradition.
