Folklorama at Play: A Group Tour’s Experience of Portuguese Culture!

On May 29th Folklorama welcomed 38 people travelling from B.C- ready for an unforgettable adventure. They had heard of Folklorama, a celebration that promised a vibrant tapestry of cultures, food, and dance. Eager to immerse themselves in this unique experience, they booked the “Folklorama at Play” package, choosing the Portuguese theme to explore and have a new cultural experience.

The visitors were greeted by the warm smiles of the local hosts, dressed in traditional Portuguese attire. As they were seated, a variety of appetizers were served, including pastéis de bacalhau (codfish cakes).

After the feast, it was time for dance. The lights dimmed, and the stage came alive with the sounds of Fado music, a soulful genre that tugged at their heartstrings. Dancers in vibrant costumes swirled and twirled, performing the traditional Vira and Corridinho dances with grace and energy. The audience couldn’t resist the infectious rhythm and soon found themselves joining in, their feet moving in harmony with the beat.

As the evening drew to a close, the group gathered one last time at the main stage, where a grand finale brought all the performers together in a spectacular fusion of music and dance. The air buzzed with excitement and joy, creating a sense of unity and celebration that transcended cultural boundaries.

Leaving the Portuguese Association, the travellers felt a profound connection to the culture they had experienced. Their hearts were full, their minds broadened, and their spirits uplifted by the vibrant celebration of diversity that Folklorama embodied. It was a journey that would stay with them forever, a beautiful reminder of the rich tapestry of human heritage and the joy of coming together to celebrate it.
