Committed To Community

One hundred and twenty-five years ago, something special happened in Wawanesa, Manitoba. Twenty farmers joined together to protect each other’s livelihoods by creating the Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company. Those farmers chose to look after one another, giving back to their communities in the process, and to this day the positive impact is still felt.

Today, Wawanesa Insurance serves more than 2 million policyholders across Canada and the U.S. Their purpose as a company is to look after one another, and they proudly invest in the places where they live and work.

“Supporting our communities is the essence of who we are,” says Kristin Speirs, Manager of Community & Events at Wawanesa Insurance. “In response to the coronavirus outbreak, we increased our annual community donations, supporting food banks, hospitals, United Way centres, and other community organizations across Canada and the U.S.”

Folklorama is proud to be one of those recipients, not only during COVID times but for the past many years.

“During our non-traditional Festival years, Wawanesa was one of the first to put their hand up and ask how they could help,” says Kim Morphy, Director, Festival Operations & Partnerships.

“Folklorama helps create entertaining and valuable learning opportunities, celebrating our diversity,” says Speirs. “We applaud Folklorama for a commitment that has spanned over 50 years of building cultural understanding and promoting diversity here in Manitoba.”

Thank you, Wawanesa for your continued support and congratulations on 125 years of assisting not only Manitobans but also people around North America. You are truly a Manitoba success story. Those farmers would be proud.
