The Karpat Hungarian Folk Dancers of Winnipeg is a group of dedicated young people whose goal is to learn about their Hungarian culture. Founded in 1987, they preserve and pass on their cultural heritage through the performance of Hungarian folkdance and song, in the authentic tradition.
Consisting of a child group and an adult group totaling 35 members, the Karpat Dancers are regular performers in Winnipeg and in rural Manitoba. They have also performed annually at the Western Canadian Hungarian Folk Festival in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
Their performances are captivating; featuring vibrant Hungarian folk music and dancing. They always wear beautifully embroidered authentic costumes from the many diverse regions of Hungary. Among the highlights are the intricate shepherd’s stick dance, and the amazing girls’ bottle dance.
The Karpat Hungarian Folk Dancers of Winnipeg are the feature attraction of the Budapest-Hungaria Pavilion during Folklorama.
