Board Member Feature: Surekha Joshi

Surekha Joshi immigrated to Winnipeg in 1986. Her involvement with the India Association of Manitoba has spanned over 27 years including serving the organization twice as President and three times as India Pavilion’s Coordinator.

 

Surekha joined the Folklorama Board of Directors in 2018 and she is excited to continue her work on various committees.

Surekha has worked on a variety of non-profit boards including the Asian Heritage Society, Corydon Avenue and Winnipeg BIZ Associations, the Hindu Society of Manitoba, and the India School of Dance. Her passion for public service has led her to volunteer for many organizations including CancerCare Manitoba, Manitoba Hindu Seniors Centre, Siloam Mission, and United Way.

She has worked as a tax consultant with H&R Block for the past 34 years and was previously a client advisor at the Royal Bank of Canada for 16 years. In her time with RBC, Surekha was awarded the Community Leader Award for two consecutive years and the Diversity Leader Award in 2018.  She was honoured to receive RBC’s Global Citizen Award in 2019, when she also was given the unique opportunity to join their volunteering initiative in Bogani, Kenya.  She has also received the India Association of Manitoba’s Unsung Hero Award for dedicating more than 25 years to promoting Indian culture in Winnipeg.
