Serbian Folk Ensemble ‘KOLO’ is a group of children, young adults, and adults who strive to provide a happy and fun environment while promoting Serbian culture and tradition through a wide range of Serbian dances.
KOLO is the traditional dance of Serbian people, with many local varieties.
KOLO is the folk dance in which dancers, both male, and female, join hands to form a magic circle that moves, breathes, and lives with music.
They are a part of the KOLO Serbian Cultural Society. The society is a non-profit, non-denominational located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. They aim to preserve and promote the cultural heritage and traditions of Serbian people through understanding, acceptance, and interaction between people of diverse nationalities. To symbolize this, the logo of the Society includes both Canadian and Serbian symbols: the red maple leaf of Canada and three colors of the Serbian flag.
The Serbian Folk Ensemble is the feature attraction at the Serbian Kolo Pavilion during Folklorama. The ensemble has represented Folklorama and Canada internationally at festivals in Peru (2009), Costa Rica (2011) and Colombia (2013).
