Cultural Preservation Fund Award Program

APPLICATIONS HAVE NOW CLOSED FOR 2024.

Please check back in Fall 2025 to apply again.

Are you a Folklorama member under 25 that wants to apply for cultural funding?  Or are you a Folklorama member who wants to get youth involved in a program to preserve their ethno-cultural heritage?

Please read below to learn more about the Awards program.

The Folklorama Cultural Preservation Fund is a permanent endowment fund established at The Winnipeg Foundation.  As a result of the endowment fund, Folklorama has established a Cultural Preservation Fund Award Program for Folklorama members.  This award program provides Folklorama members with access to monies to help grow youth initiatives for ongoing or new projects that celebrate, educate, promote, and preserve culture for many years to come.  Awards will range from $100 – $500 per project/activity, depending on amount of funds available. The Folklorama Cultural Preservation Fund Awards Jury reviews all applications and decides on final recipients.

Some examples of projects that can be supported by the Cultural Preservation Fund awards program are:

* Ethno-cultural dance, vocal, and other artistic instruction for youth;

* Teaching youth their cultural language through an established program;

* Programs that teach youth to preserve traditional cultural foods and recipes;

* Training for succession planning in cultural community organizations (IE: Governance, logistical planning, volunteer management, etc.);

* Education programs for youth (IE: Summer camps, workshops, information sessions, etc.) that focus on learned experiences of ethno-cultural diversity;

* Costs associated for youth to travel to national and international festivals and competitions directly related to preservation of culture.
