Folklorama is happy to welcome two new members, The Sri Lankan Association of Manitoba and Stelle di Calabria!
The Sri Lankan Association of Manitoba – Community Organization Member
The Sri Lankan Association of Manitoba exists to unite and represent Sri Lankans living in Manitoba while preserving and celebrating Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage. The Association aims to foster a strong, inclusive, and supportive community that promotes social connection, cultural awareness, education, and mutual respect among its members and the wider Canadian society. Through collaboration and volunteer leadership, the Association works to strengthen community bonds, support newcomers, and ensure continuity for future generations.
The Association is known for organizing celebratory community events such as Sinhala and Tamil New Year, RANGANA, and other cultural festivals and gatherings. They also offer family-friendly sports days, youth engagement programs, and heritage-based learning programs.
Stelle di Calabria – Performing Member (Group)
Stelle di Calabria is a community-based Italian folk dance organization dedicated to preserving, teaching, and showcasing folk traditions from across Italy’s diverse regions. Through authentic dance, music, storytelling, and cultural attire, Stelle di Calabria celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Italy, providing immersive and vibrant celebrations of Italian culture for its audiences.
The group’s activities include developing and performing choregraphed folk dances that incorporate traditional rhythms, partner work, and music; ensuring cultural knowledge is passed along; and promoting cultural appreciation through dance demonstrations, workshops and community engagement.
