Happy Lunar New Year! #CelebrateEverything
Lunar New Year is a celebration of the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar. Those celebrating consider it the time of the year to reunite with immediate and extended family. The holiday symbolizes renewal, prosperity, and family unity.
The Lunar New Year falls on February 17th this year.
Lunar New Year is celebrated with vibrant traditions reflecting the diverse cultures of Asian communities, particularly those with Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and other East and Southeast Asian heritage. While the festivities vary based on cultural background, the core themes of family, prosperity, and renewal remain consistent. There are often family and community gatherings, but also in larger cities public events of celebration including parades, fireworks and cultural festivals welcoming all. Adults give children red envelopes with money for prosperity and luck. And some people visit temples or shrines for blessings.
